Hello everyone,
I hope you had a joyful and rejuvenating Christmas break. After a busy first-year on Council, I was able to enjoy some fun in the sun with my family over the holidays.
There are many exciting District initiatives in the works, and there are several opportunities in January to provide your thoughts and ideas on some of these, including:
Ambleside Activation – Several projects to add vitality and bring more people and business into the area, including food services on the waterfront, an Arts Centre on Bellevue, Spirit Trail routes, and streetscape designs will be described.
Tuesday, January 22nd: Public Consultation/Open House, 3:30-5:30 pm, Municipal Hall, #750-17th Street, in the main floor lobby.
Tuesday, January 29th: Public Consultation/Open House, 7-9 pm, West Vancouver Memorial Library, 1950 Marine Drive, in the Welsh Hall.
Public Safety Building – Various building forms (massing scenarios) for the proposed joint police and fire facility adjacent to the Municipal Hall will be presented.
Wednesday, January 30th: Public Consultation/Open House, 6-9 pm, West Vancouver Community Centre, in the Lily Lee Spirit Room.
Council Procedure – Council is proposing changes to its procedural bylaw in order to achieve more transparency and predictability around how and when we conduct our business. For example, business previously considered by the Finance Committee would come before Council at a Monday night meeting dedicated solely to financial matters; and substantive issues requiring more extensive consideration and discussion would come before Council at a “Committee of the Whole” meeting, also to be scheduled on Monday nights. These proposed changes will be considered by Council tomorrow night and on February 4th.
I encourage you to attend in person, visit www.westvancouver.ca, or provide comments by e-mail to mayorandcouncil@westvancouver.ca regarding any of these initiatives.
I’m looking forward to another interesting and productive year, and wish you a happy, healthy and prosperous 2013. Please feel free to pass this information along.
Warmly,
Mary-Ann
